Today we are going to discuss the most popular and famous political party in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Pakistan. Yes, we are talking about Paskhtoon Awami National Party (ANP), which is a nationalist political party in Pakistan. ANP was founded by its famous political leader, Wali Khan in 1986. The current president of this party is Asfandiyar Khan, who is the grandson of Bacha Khan. And Aimal Wali Khan, who is the son of Asfandiyar Khan is currently the general secretary of this party.
During the election of 2008 – 2013, Awami National Party (ANP) won all major seats of the provincial assembly, and proved itself as the largest Pashtoon nationalist political party in Khyber Pakhtoonkwa. They created their influence in the Pashtoon dominated areas. As a result, they governed the provincial government from 2008 – 2014. In the next election of 2013, the Awami National Party lost against PTI, and became limited to a 7 seats, which were 35 in the 2008 election.
Initially the ANP supported the United India, but after the partion, they strongly supported Pakistan and worked for the welfare of Pakistan and specially Pakhtoon Nation.
History of Awami National Party (ANP)
Abdul Wali was the founder of this political party, and it was built in the year of 1986. Most of his political career is built on the intense Pakhtoon Nationalism, and he followed his father Abdul Ghafar Khan, also known as Bacha Khan.
In 1972 the party won majority of provincial seats and formed coalition provincial government with its partner Jammiat Ulema-e-Islam not only in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa but also in Balochistan. However, the ruling time of these two political parties were short. As the founding leader Wali Khan was sent to jail again, and his party was barred to take part in politics. This development were came after Supreme Court made a decision on the basis of President Bhutto finding his political party is consipiring against the state of Pakistan.
2008 Election and Awami National Party (ANP)
During the 2008 election, as stated earlier, the ANP ranked as the most popular party of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. They formed a coalition government with Pakistan People Party, while Amir Haider Khan was chased as the Chief Minister of the Khyber Pakhtoonkwa, who belongs to Awami National Party (ANP).
During his tenure, Awami National Party (ANP) made a large number of developmental mega projects, like
Bacha Khan Medical College in Mardan,
Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan,
Bacha Khan University Charsaddah
Wali Khan University Bunir.
In addition to the above, they also built a huge number of colleges, schools, hospitals, mosques, hujras and like more. In fact, those who belongs to other opponent parties also accept the developmental works done by the Awami National Party (ANP) in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.

2013 Election and Awami National Party (ANP)
During the 2013 election, hundred of members, leaders and workers of Awami National Party (ANP) were killed and assassinated. Similarly their top leaders and candidature members were assassinated in suicide bomb blasts, like Bashir Bilour and Haroon Bilour. Awami National Party (ANP) was intentonally kept isolated from the election, fear were created among their workers, leaders and supporters.

2018 Election and Awami National Party (ANP)
Once again the establishment of Pakistan tried to give a chance to PTI in the federal government as well as in the provincial government. As a result, all other political parties, including, Awami National Party (ANP) lost against the Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf.
Current Political Position
In the current situation, Awami National Party (ANP) is considered as one of the most favorit and strong political party in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. As due to 9 May inciddent, which was intentionally did by PTI and attacked several army and government premises including Noor Khan Air Base, GHQ head quarter Attack by PTI leaders and workers, Mardan Cant Attack by PTI leaders and workers.
Now, Awami National Party (ANP) has started its election campaign and doing its political activities on daily basis. In last several surveys it has declared that peoples of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa support largely the ANP.
