Billie Eilish dazzled in a spectacular Oscar de la Renta gown at the Met Gala on Monday night.
The evening was the 19-year-old superstar’s first attendance at the iconic fashion event, and she made it one to remember. Eilish forced Oscar de la Renta’s house to go fully fur-free before she went out into the
Eilish, a vegan who has spoken out in support of animal rights, said on Instagram that it was “an honour to wear this dress knowing that going forward Oscar de la Renta will be completely fur-free,” and thanked the label’s creative directors, Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, for listening to her concerns.
She was “beyond happy” that the team listened to her concerns and “have now made a change that has an influence for the larger good, not only for animals but also for our world and ecosystem.”
The “Happier Than Ever” singer also expressed gratitude for “having been a catalyst and been heard on this topic,” and asked “other designers to do the same.”
In a statement to CNN, Oscar de la Renta CEO Alex Bolen stated that he is attempting to “surround” himself with individuals who have opposing viewpoints, particularly young people.
“I reflected a lot on what Oscar said — he was a great admirer of fur, by the way — that the one thing he was most worried about in the fashion world was his eye growing old,” Bolen added.
In her décolleté-baring peach gown, Eilish evoked Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly, with a tight bodice and a huge tulle train that required the assistance of four assistants.
The appearance further solidified the pop giant’s shift in style, as she continues to move away from the iconic Goth look, that she originally broke onto the scene with back in 2019, in favour of pastel colours and a sleek blond hairstyle.
