LAHORE/KARACHI/QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: The federal Power Minister Khurram Dastgir on Monday said that the government is trying to restore electricity in the whole country by 10pm today.
While answering to a question about restoration of electricity in the country the Minister said “Target is to restore power by 22:00 (10pm) local time but trying to restore much before that,”.
As a result of frequency variation in the national grid early morning today, has left all major parts and cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta without electricity.
Government Response over Electricity Breakdown
Once the power breakdown was reported in the country early of this morning, the federal minister of power Mr. Dastgir, while talking to Geo News, said that the power generation units are temporarily shut down in winter at night as an economic measure to save fuel costs.
He further said that “When the systems were turned on at 7:30 am this morning one by one, frequency variation was reported in the southern part of the country between Jamshoro and Dadu. There was a fluctuation in voltage and power generating units were shut down one by one due to cascading impact. This is not a major crisis,” said the federal minister as the country plunged into darkness for the second time in four months.
On this occasion the federal minister of power Dastagir said that his ministry has started restoring some grid stations in Tarbela and Warsak. He further said that “Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and some other grids of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) have already been restored,” claimed the power minister Dastagir.
The ministry of energy said on its social media Twitter account that grid stations activation has been started from Warsak, and in the last one hour IESCO and PESCO limited grids have been restored.
