ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has proposed new dates for the by-election in Punjab province on the direction of the Supreme Court (SC).
The ECP send a letter to the President Arif Alvi, in which the ECP has recommended the polls date for the Punjab provincial assembly and proposed that the polls can be held between April 30 — May 07.
The ECP official met today — on the third consecutive meeting — chaired by the chief election commissioner (ECP) Sikandar Sultan Raja in the chair.
In the letter issued from the ECP it is stated that “The commission is ready to fulfil its Constitutional and legal obligations after the selection of a date by the president,” .

The PTI senior leader has strongly welcomed the recent development and has appreciated the ECP for taking a “step in the right direction”.
The Pakistan Tehrek Insaaf senior leader Fawad Chaudhry said, “The Supreme Court, in its order, had allowed the president and the ECP to go beyond the 90-day time limit but had used the word bare minimum.”
