Due to tension between Russia and its neighboring country, Finland, the Russian government has stopped its natural gas supply to Finland on Saturday. The move comes after the Finland govt announced that it would apply for NATO membership after the Nordic country refused to make payment to Russia’s Gazprom in Russian currency rubles.
After the Russian special operation in Ukraine, on Feb 24, Moscow has asked the countries, including EU member countries, to which the Russian govt supplies natural gas to pay for gas in Russian currency rubles. The Russian govt wants to fight Western financial sanctions against its central bank.
On Saturday 21 May, in a statement issued by the Gazprom that it had “Completely stopped gas deliveries” because it had not received payment in Rubles from the Finland govt, on May 20.
