As the country continues to oppose Vladimir Putin’s invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky talked of “openly savage strikes” and stated Russian shelling killed one person and injured others in a residential area Saturday.
In his evening presentation, Zelensky delivered an update, saying “the situation is quite delicate,” as Ukraine finished its 94th day of conflict and Putin formally eliminated the maximum age limit for military membership in Russia.
“As a result of today’s Russian bombardment of Mykolaiv, one person died, seven were injured, two of whom are in critical condition,” Zelensky stated. “The shells landed twenty metres from the kindergarten in a residential neighbourhood. The Russian Federation has picked these adversaries.”
Zelensky reportedly claimed “barbaric” missile and mortar attacks in the Sumy area.
“Today, the Russian army conducted completely irrational, overtly savage assaults on the Sumy area. Missiles and mortars And for what purpose? And what is the result? “He said. “Ukrainians in the Sumy area, like those in the rest of our country, already know everything there is to know about Russia. And the new monster will not be able to offer anything. Furthermore, it will be unable to intimidate.”
According to the TASS Russian News Agency, Putin also approved a measure enacted on Wednesday that “abolishes the upper age restriction” for first-time troops to enrol. Prior to the reform, Russian nationals and foreigners aged 18 to 40 were both eligible.
According to the BBC, Ukrainian sources estimate Russia has lost 30,000 soldiers, compared to the Russian-provided figure of 1,351 on March 25.
According to TASS, Russia executed the move because experts believe it “would assist the recruitment of contractual professionals in demanded sectors, especially connected to civilians, including communications, engineering, and medical support.”
In his Saturday report, Zelensky described the present situation in Donbas and Kharkiv as “extremely complex.” He mentioned Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Bakhmut, and Popasna as “important battlegrounds.”
“But our defence remains strong,” he remarked. “It’s quite difficult there. And I am grateful to everyone who has stood up to the invaders’ attack.”
According to Zelensky, Ukraine’s combat capabilities are approaching those of Russia.
“Every day, we get closer to the day when our army will outnumber the invaders in terms of technology and weaponry,” he stated. “Of course, much is dependent on the partners. On their willingness to aid Ukraine with whatever it needs to protect its freedom. And I anticipate excellent news on this front early next week.”
