WASHINGTON/KYIV: The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy will reach out to the United States to meet US President Joe Biden and his key personnel. Mr. Zelenskiy will also make an address to US Congress on Wednesday in his first known overseas trip 300 days after the Russian aggression and invasion of Ukraine.
Before his visit to the US, Ukraine president Zelenskiy said he was going to Washington for talks with the US President Biden to further strengthen the US-Ukraine ties, resilience and defense capabilities. He will also discuss the worsen situation of water supplies in the dead of the winter season.
During the Ukrainian president Zelenskiy’s visit to the US, US president Biden will announce a big package of military assistance for Ukraine valued at about $2 billion. The US military package will consist of a Patriot missile battery that will be used to help the Ukrainian forces to defend themselves against barrages of Russian missiles, a senior US official said.
In spite of meeting with US president Biden, Ukrainian president Zelenskiy will also hold talks with US top national security aides at the White House. Ukraine president Zelenskiy will also then participate in a joint news conference with Biden and after that he will go to Capitol Hill where he will address a joint session of the US Senate and House of Representatives.
While talking about the Zelenskie visit to the US, the White House press secretary Karine Jean-Prerre said that “The visit will underscore the United States’ steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as it takes, including through the provision of economic, humanitarian, and military assistance,”.
It is to be remembered that the Russian army started a special operation in Ukraine on Feb. 24 with the aim of capturing Kyiv in a few days, however, this goal of Russian forces was quickly proved out of reach.
